scrapbook saturday - free is good

Today I took advantage of the local scrapbook store's free crop to get a lot of work done - mainly in the album I've been working on (for far too long) about my dear friend's wedding in which I was a bridesmaid. Truth be told, I'd simply been lazy about getting the last set of photos printed; but this is definitely an album I am very close to finishing and that has become great motivation to actually achieve that.

Interestingly, for a large portion of the pages that I worked on, the word "scrap" was all too appropriate.  While sorting through the makeshift "memory box" of stuff I'd kept from her wedding in preparation for the crop, I'd found a stack of 5.5-inch purple paper.  What the???  Ohhhhh...this would be the leftover "scrap" from the shower invitations I'd made.

The dark purple turned out to be a great mat color for the pages I had planned for the ceremony...

...and the reception afterward.  So most of the "leftover" purple paper became something useful (and saved me from buying a lot of paper to cut up for mats!).  I even was able to incorporate some of the metallic purple circles leftover from the programs I'd made.  Maybe being a pack rat isn't such a bad thing after all...at least for scrapbooking.

The only difficult thing about waiting so long to scrapbook an event like this (in which a lot of the pictures were taken by other people, and thus I don't have access to captions) is that I tend to forget the little details...things like what song the bride and the groom danced to; or what songs were used for the father-daughter and mother-son dances.  Guess I'll have to do some research to finish the journaling on that particular page.

After getting all of the ceremony and reception pages put together (and some of them journaled), I had time this afternoon to work on a couple other things, too.  There's the page for Valentine's Day 2009 (oh, the memories that brings back!)...

...and the Easter card I made for Wildcat Guy.  It was quite the productive day, and a wi$e one, too.  In addition to the "scrap" I used for the wedding album pages, I was able to use stuff I had on hand for the other projects, too.  Granted, I still spent a little bit of money - that's inevitable! - but getting lots done feels even better when it doesn't cost a lot.

The person which makes a memory book should keep in mind that the venture is an expansion of one's self. Through the structure, designs, colors, and designs, manufacturer manages the venture.

Actually, my thought is that manufacturers facilitate the venture - and perhaps provide inspiration - but that a creative spirit makes art based on a vision, not what's available.

My comment won't be as articulate - I still can't find my list of songs! I'm looking though... and will keep looking. If nothing else they are on the CD that they made us :)

You mean you don't just remember? Oh wait...that's why we write things down and scrapbook them, isn't it? =)

yes, it is precisely! I found the CD, now I just have to determine which one went with each dance...
