dinner, paula deen style
For my birthday, Mom bought me this beautiful teal enamel-lined cast-iron dutch oven from one of Paula Deen's cookware lines. Yay! I had been wanting one of these pans for a while, so that I could give soup-making a try (among other things)...and Mom picked the perfect one out for me.
And to go with that - a Paula Deen cookbook! I had borrowed this cookbook from the library, and when I realized how many of the recipes I wanted to make copies of, I decided it would probably make sense to simply get my own copy. (Or, in this case, ask for a copy for my birthday.) Just look at all those dog-ears!
So it was with great amusement that I realized I'd be making a Paula Deen recipe for chili (albeit not from the cookbook) in my Paula Deen cookware.
I made "courage chili" with a side of cornbread muffins - it was the perfect dinner to share with some of my student staff on a cold rainy night. And I was impressed with how simple it was to make - even with my love's help - just three steps to hearty deliciousness.
And then...in my search for a dessert that would complement the chili...I found a yummy-sounding recipe for lemon bars. In - what else? - my new Paula Deen cookbook. These were equally easy, and equally delicious.
Ahh, Paula Deen. What inspiration she provides for my cooking!
