seven steps of synchronicity
Today was definitely one of those crazy days when conversations and ideas fell into an uncanny alignment.
First...a meeting at the coffee shop to talk with students who wanted to voice concerns about the lack of service and community outreach that our department offers or encourages.
Second...those students suggesting a campus-wide collection of clothes, furniture, etc. at the end of the semester to supply a yard sale to benefit the local food bank.
Third...those students also suggesting the idea of incorporating discussions about service (and its educational value) in our fall staff training.
Fourth...putting the collection idea on my department's Monday staff meeting agenda.
Fifth...a completely different group of students asking the campus hall government organization if they'd be willing to help this group publicize the idea of a campus-wide collection of clothes, furniture, etc. at the end of the semester to supply a yard sale to benefit the local food bank.
Sixth...me recommending they talk more with my department (since we'll be discussing it at our Monday staff meeting).
Seventh...running into a colleague from the campus service-learning center on my walk home, leading to a conversation exploring the possibility of her facilitating a discussion at our fall staff training about service (and its educational value)
I'm in awe of how beautifully these conversations flow together...so amazing!
