Because one day, when the wire retainer you've had cemented on your lower teeth for fifteen years falls off, you will have the phone number of your orthodontist on file. Never mind that he's apparently gone out of business in the fourteen years since you last saw him...at least you had the number to call, to make sure there's nothing to be done.
