"What I Did on My Summer Vacation"

So I made it back from my vacation last week...I had such a good time that I kinda wish I could have stayed longer than I did. Here's just a glimpse of the fun...

Sunday and Monday were lazy days!! We hung out at our villa, shifting down to vacation pace, and gearing up for the fun of the days ahead.

Tuesday, it was off to Animal Kingdom, the one park at Walt Disney World I had not visited before. In a word - amazing! The animals were beautiful, and to see them in such large, open habitats was awesome. Another sight to see was the Tree of Life, the centerpiece of the park and an impressive piece of art...more than 300 animals have been carved into the tree!

Of all the animals, the tigers were my favorite. Graceful and elegant, it's easy to forget sometimes that they're really just oversized housecats.

Wednesday, we ventured to Epcot, where Dad made a new friend.

We spent most of the day wandering around the World Showcase, stopping for pastries in Norway and a late lunch in the UK. (Cottage Pie...mmmm!) But my favorite stop on our trek was Japan! In addition to shopping in the Mitsukoshi store and eating a delicious shaved ice, we got to see not one, but two Matsukira (sp??) drum performances. (That's how much time we spent in Japan!) Not only is the music captivating, but the choreography is so dramatic and stunning.

And before leaving, we made a stop at the Living Seas aquarium to see the manatees and other sea creatures.

Thursday and Friday were more lazy days. Thursday, after lounging at the pool, we did spend the evening at a reception for Dad's high school reunion...his 35th reunion! Friday, we made a last stop at Downtown Disney to do some last shopping, and I acquired five new pins. Yes, five. What can I say, it's an addiction! Mom and I also caught "Batman Begins"...excellent movie! I highly recommend it.

But the cutest part of the whole week were these ducks.

I think it was the second day that we saw them on the porch of our villa, and I fed them some cereal flakes. Well, they kept coming back...so I kept feeding them. Every day, there were the four of them. They would stand there patiently, waiting for a snack, and waddle off when they were finished.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip...I could fill pages and pages with the hundreds of pictures and memories that I accumulated. And while it feels good to be in my own home again, I wouldn't have minded staying on vacation forever.

(Karen - Your picture of Tweedledee and Tweedledum is on its way!)

I like your new picture! And I can't wait to go to Disney World again--the last time I was there was when I was 14. I'm glad you had a good time and I'm very jealous!
